Mrs. Cage, an one-act, two-person interrogation, takes on crime, careers, murder and marriage as it introduces someone who may very well be the last person in the world willing to take responsibility for her actions. In the custody of Lt. Angel for the murder of a stranger in a grocery store parking lot, Mrs. Martin Cage confronts the quality of her life as she confesses her crime.
Mrs. Cage was originally produced by Two Lights Studio Theatre in Los Angeles. It was directed by playwright Nancy Barr and featured Judith Weston and Charles Bouvier. The play was adapted for PBS’ American Playhouse and featured Anne Bancroft and Hector Elizondo, earning all three principals Emmy nominations:
“Rarely is a theatre piece so translucent that it can take a banal situation, in this case a crime of passion, and fill it not only with life but theatrical art.”
-The Los Angeles Times
“Barr’s play is insightful and challenging. . .it’s all first class.
-Variety
“. . . compelling drama.”
-The New York Times
The Eve/Fledgling production of Mrs. Cage is directed by Scout Larken and features Susan McNeese Lynch and Matthew Dalton Lynch. The Lynches are mother and son and this will be their first opportunity to work on stage together. McNeese Lynch is a co-founder and co-artistic director for Eve Theatre. Dalton Lynch founded Fledging Theatre in New York in 2016 and has produced plays that strive to tell untold stories from the fringes of society, including The Altruists by Nicky Silver and The Shakespeare Conspiracy by Ted Bancino.
Mrs. Cage will be video streamed through www.showtix4u.com/event-details/41297 on November 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21 22. Tickets are $20 and the play is available for viewing for 48 hours. Mrs. Cage is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc.
