Eve Theatre Company is proud to present the world premiere of a new two-act play written by Kentucky’s own Scout Larken Link. A love letter to Scout’s own west Kentucky roots, GOIN’ UP HOME spans the past and present to share a family’s last hours with the old homeplace that they have all cherished. Each member of the family, from the oldest to the youngest, has their own connection to the rural farmhouse that holds so many memories from years gone by. They gather together to celebrate, mourn and even learn a few final secrets that creaking wood and antique artifacts reveal. To add to the dramatic undertones, the play has been entirely scored by five-time Emmy Award-winning composer Stephen Reinhardt.
Scout is a versatile writer, musician and songwriter who has worked within the Louisville and southeastern regional theatre community for decades as director and actor as well as playwright. “Being immersed in rich storytelling tradition went a long way toward my education and intuition as a writer,” said Scout. “When it comes to GOIN’ UP HOME in particular, some of this story is a version of the ‘truth’ … and some is imagined … but make no mistake: All of it is real. That’s because all of it is human.”
GOIN’ UP HOME was initially conceived and drafted as part of the Kentucky Voices playwrighting project at Horse Cave Theatre. It was substantially developed with funding assistance from The Kentucky Foundation for Women.
